6 Days / 5 Nights Huancacalle + Machu Picchu
Itinerary
Day 1: Cusco- Huancacalle
Departing from Cusco at about 6:00 am, we will head to the village of Huancacalle, which is a number of hours away. We will make a few stops along the way to stretch our legs and take some photo ops as well. We should be arriving at about 1:00 pm, when we will have some time to explore around and visit the beautiful archaeological site, Rosaspata Ñustahispana, even having a guided tour. We will set up our camp nearby and prepare our dinner
Day 2: Huancacalle- Raqachaca
Beginning with a healthy Breakfast, we will want to start trekking rather early today. The ancient Incan path, which has been preserved marvellously, will weave us across the mountain terrain, passing by a great variety of flora and fauna along the way. Our Lunch for the day will be enjoyed in full view of the immense, snow-capped, Nevado Pumasillo. In the afternoon, we will continue on our way to the days' destination, Racachaqa. That is where we will set up camp and make our dinner.
Day 3: Raqachaca- Lacoqocha
At 7:00 am, we will begin trekking, making our way past various lagoons in the direction of Azulcocha. On the way we will see some portions of Machupicchu, hiding away, up in the distance along with Mount Veronica. When we arrive to Azulcocha, we will have a rest and some lunch before continuing following the trail. In the afternoon we will trek for a few more hours, descending to Lacoqocha, where we will set up camp and prepare our dinner.
Day 4: Lacoqocha- Santa Teresa
Early in the morning, after breakfast, we will again continue about our descent to reach Chaupichaca. Across the Yanatile River from there, we will visit the archaeological remains of Inca Wasi, in the middle of the sub-tropical forest. That is where we will have our days' Lunch before continuing on, along the ancient Inca trail, which has remained in tact for so many years. When we finally arrive to the village of Yanatile, we will mount some horses to ride the rest of the way to our final destination for the day Santa Teresa, where we will set up camp for the night..
Day 5: Santa Teresa- Aguas Calientes
Waking up in the middle of the jungle on Day 5 is a memorable experience. Today's trek through the thick forest will bring us to coffee, banana, avocado and pineapple plantations, as well as, the most interesting of all: coca crops, the sacred herb of the Incas. We will eventually arrive to the place known as Hydroelectric to have our Lunch board the train that will takes us the rest of the way to Aguas Calientes in a scenic 30 minute ride. We will spend the night at a hotel in Aguas Calientes
Day 6: Aguas Calientes- Machupicchu- Cusco
Day 6 of the journey is dedicated entirely to visiting the magical remains of Machupicchu. After an extremely early breakfast, we will take the bus up to the site, where we will need to register ourselves at the checkpoint. Afterwards, we will walk around the site with our guide, as he teaches you about the amazing history of the mystical place. In the afternoon, you should start making your way back down the mountain to Aguas Calientes so you can get to know the town a little bit more before retrieving your things from the hotel and catching the train back to Cusco
