6 Days / 5 Nights Ausangate Trek
Itinerary
Day 1: Cusco- Ocongate- Tinqui
Leaving at a comfortable hour, 9:00 am, after having had Breakfast, we will ride in our private transport towards the pueblo, Ocongate, where we will have our stretch our legs and have a delicious typical Lunch at a traditional restaurant. Afterwards, we will get back in the transport and continue on our way to our first campsite in the village of Tinqui.
Day 2: Tinqui- Upis
After an early Breakfast, we will finally begin trekking at about 7:30 am, where we will find ourselves in some nice, open terrains with immense mountains all around us. Coming across small typical communities in the wilderness, we will be able to appreciate their customs and distinct ways of life. We will likely encounter large groups of beautiful llamas in their natural habitats. Having had our days' Lunch in Ñicchipampa, we will continue until finally arriving to the nicely situated, Upis, where we will set up camp nearby some natural hot springs.
Day 3: Upis- Pukachocha- Ausangatecocha
Beginning our day with an ascent to an extremely high, Harapa Pass which is not the highest point we will see, but it is still a force to recon with at 4,700 meters. From that point, we will soak in some truly gorgeous landscapes, with the virgin mountain range towering overhead and several magnificent lakes below. We will later have our Lunch in Pukacocha, followed by the last stretch of trail before setting up our campsite in Ausangatecocha.
Day 4: Ausangatechocha- Jampa
Today we will climb to the highest point of the entire trek at 5,050 meters, the towering Palomani Pass, which offers some stellar views of the picturesque landscape. Descending down into the Machuracay Valley, we will eventually come to the place known as Jampa, where we will set up our campsite for the day.
Day 5: Jampa- Komerqocha- Pacchanta
We will begin Day 5 with one last ascent, passing by Colquecruz, to the Jampa Pass at 4,600 meters. Afterwards we will have a break and some lunch in Komercocha. In the afternoon we will continue walking until we arrive to Pampas, and then later on, reaching our campsite for the night in Pacchanta alongside some natural hot springs.
Day 6: Cusco- Pacchanta- Tinqui
After a short trek that leads us through some beautiful, Andean landscapes and typical, picturesque villages, we will return to the point where we started 6 days ago, Tinqui, having completed the fantastic journey around the highest peak in the Cusco region, Mount Ausangate. In Tinqui, we will meet the transport us back to Cusco again.
